With less than two weeks to the end of the legislative session, the state Sentencing Commission is asking Senate leaders to bring two potentially controversial proposals to a vote.
SB 1113 would create a new sex offender registry board, which would set the length of time a person could be on the registry based on their risk of reoffending and not just the offenses they committed. Full Article
This is good in the sense that it is showing that a glimmer of sanity is crepe into the masses. I like the line, “a more equitable system.” People are recognizing how punitive and counter productive the registry is.
There are “support” or “oppose” buttons for each of these bills in the above articles. It would be cool if we could all show our support to try and counteract the wave of “oppose” which, as we know, comes from a misunderstanding of recidivist rates.
It might show the public that the support for rethinking these laws from draconian and ridiculous to at least somewhat sane exists!
